Especially important when submitting to a potential agent or publisher. If you have a quiet beginning, that may not be the best way to go with your submission. You only have a minute to catch their attention.

I am extremely thankful for the information in the blog. It's a life-saver actually. Let me explain:-

I am a writer with four completed novels and looking for publishers. A single query with synopsis to Starvision Press elicited an immediate request from them for my entire manuscript. My second query for details made them send a draft copy of the "agreement contract". What all you mentioned, are there!

Further, their address is FISHY to say the least. A cursory glance would tell you the suspicious story.

The publishing scene is really frightening.

Can you give me any inputs about (1) LEADSTART PUBLISHERS, MUMBAI, (2) DORRANCE PUBLISHERS, PITTSBURGH, USA, (3) RANDOMHOUSE, NOIDA, UP and (4) PENGUIN INDIA, NEW DELHI (THEY ARE VERY REPUTED)

How can I go about finding a genuine TRADITIONAL publisher in these conditions?

Hi Gabe!

Great post. For us writers out here, I would love a follow-up blog that's all about #1, the edit. Let's say you get a book in your hands and it seems like it might be worth it to publish. I feel like sometimes the difference between getting published and not is the amount of work it's going to take to whip the story into shape. What editing pitfalls, and I don't mean spelling errors, can writers really work hard to avoid? What do you look for, as an editor or publisher, for an otherwise good writer NOT to do, to be worth the risk?

I just got back from a service trip to Honduras, and we played this game with 15 people in a circle around a table nearly every evening. The results involved great laughs and creativity. I'll be bringing it home and suggesting we do this at Christmastime with my family. It's good to hear that you're doing well and are having fun with writing down in NC. Happy Holidays, Megan!
