What can I submit?

Pubmission supports just about any kind of writing submission. That includes:

• Novels
• Short stories
• Children's books
• Nonfiction books
• Magazine articles
• Poetry
• Screenplays
• Plays

You can also include up to 3 photos or illustrations, which can be a big help if you're submitting a children's book or graphic novel.

No more hefty postage fees

The Post Office isn't Pubmission's biggest fan. That's because all you have to do is upload a section of your writing to Pubmission's database, along with biographical info, a short pitch, and a selection of keywords that describe the work. Save trees, printer ink, gas, and stamps.

Target more than one publisher at a time

Be sure your submission gets read by the publishers you like the best. Choose from a list of publishers whose needs match up with your work, and then send your submission directly to them.

Publishers and agents have six weeks to accept or reject it. If you don't hear from them, you can buy credits (US$4 per publisher/agent) and send it to them again and/or submit your work to the larger database where all subscribing publishers have a chance to view it.

(Pubmission reviews and posts the credentials of all publishers and agents subscribing to the site, so you don't have to worry about the typical shady characters who like to prey on aspiring writers. Also, no vanity presses allowed!)

Don't get lost in the slush pile

If you mailed your submission the old-fashioned way, it may ultimately land in a giant pile of manuscripts stashed somewhere in the publisher's office.

But what if there was a way to make your submission stand out? Pubmission gives you a great way to boost the visibility of your work. Purchase Editor Ratings from qualified editor reviewers in your genre. An editor of your choosing will examine your work and rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 stars based on what he or she believes to be its salability. You'll also get a short critique (300 character minimum) to help you understand the rating you received. This feature gives your submission more visibility with publishers.

How it works...

After you upload your submission and select the features you want, what happens next?

It's simple. Weekly e-mail alerts let publishers and agents subscribing to Pubmission know when manuscripts matching their current needs arrive in the database.

The alerts list all the submissions that match their profiles.

• At the top of this e-mail are the submissions that writers chose to send directly to that particular publisher. The submissions with the best Editor Ratings are listed at the top. (Publishers have 6 weeks to accept or reject these works.)
• Below the targeted submissions is a month's worth of manuscripts in the general database that match the publisher's current needs.

Publishers and agents can also search Pubmission's database for the types of work they want or for the submissions that are receiving the highest ratings from reviewers.

If publishers or agents decide that they like your work, they'll contact you via Pubmission's e-mail interface. They may ask you to send more of your work or offer you a contract! (See how it works from the publisher's perspective.)
